Introduction

The Department of Child Care and Family Studies (CCFS), as renamed in 2009, is the first program offered in a technological university in southern Taiwan. The program provides a foundation for students who choose to pursue a career in the area of early childhood care and family services. It provides a 4-year undergraduate program, 2-year senior college program, senior college program, and graduate program as well. CCFS is a qualified for preschool education and education personnel training department approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE). Graduates from CCFS can obtain the qualifications of “preschool teachers,” “early childcare staff,” “family education professionals,” and the "Family Educators Certification” which are certified by MOE. In order to provide students with high-quality field practice, CCFS undertakes several government-industry cooperation programs, including the Fourth and Fifth Center of Family Childcare Service in Kaohsiung City, the public nursery centers, and child care resources centers in Kangshan and Chienchin, and two affiliated preschools of Shu-Te University in Minong, and Tsuiping.

CCFS was established in 1998 with 4-year undergraduate program, the 2-year senior college program was established in 2000, a master's degree program was established in 2002, an in-service master's degree program was added in 2009, and 2-year junior college program was established in 2011. Now, there is a 4-year undergraduate program in day school, 2-year senior college program, master's degree program, and in-service master's degree program, totaling four different kinds of degree programs.

Four chairmen have been appointed so far, and the current chairperson is Dr. Lee. The list of past chairmen is as follows:

Features

專業
There are few majors in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Care and Family Education at the same time in the department of Early Childcare in Taiwan
Students graduated from our department will receive both the qualifications of educare giver and family life educator, moreover, serve as educare giver in the institutions of Early intervention.
理論
All professors in CCFS have doctoral degrees, practical experience, professional theory, and practice.
All professors' expertise covers early childhood education, special education, family education, social welfare and social work, with diverse professional backgrounds
進修
Encourage students to double major or take minors to increase their competitiveness in job market
Interdisciplinary courses are offered, including the "Children's Picture Book Teaching Application Program" in cooperation with the Department of Visual Communication Design, the "Children's Bilingual Education Program" and the "Children's Chinese Language Education Program" in cooperation with the Department of Applied Foreign Languages.

high-quality and professional internship units provided including Public Infant Care Center, parenting resource centers, family and community institutions, early intervention institutions, and non-profit preschools.

CCFS provide professional equipment for students with professional learning and optimize practical skills.
Professional facilities including Children’s Learning Environment Simulation Classroom, Elderly Home Environment Simulation Classroom, License Examination Room for Child Care Provider, License Examination Room for Nursing Attendant, Physical Playroom, etc.
By academia and industry collaboration, faculty research and student internship opportunities are provided and fulfilled the university's social responsibilities
CCFS undertakes a number of academia and industry collaboration programs in Kaohsiung City, including The Fourth and Fifth Center of Family Childcare Service in Kaohsiung City, Gangshan Public Infant Care Center and Parenting Resource Center, Qianjin Public Infant Care Center and Parenting Resource Center, Meinong Non-profit preschool and Cueiping Non-profit preschool.
